Project Overview
Between 2011 and 2014, Reconsil managed the decommissioning, demolition, and remediation of Akzo Nobel’s closed chemical plants in Skoghall. The site, with a history spanning over 90 years, ceased production in 2010, prompting an extensive closure project.
Key Phases
The project involved several main phases, including the recycling of steel structures and the demolition of buildings. This process also included the handling of hazardous waste and contaminated materials, with a particular focus on mercury management.
Workforce and Supervision
Reconsil employed up to seven people directly for the project and supervised approximately 50 contractors. Their expertise in handling hazardous substances was crucial to the project's success.
Ongoing Responsibilities
Following the demolition, Reconsil has remained operationally responsible for the site. Their ongoing duties include environmental control and the capping of the industrial landfill.
