High-Tech Coating Facility Commissioned
The Cellforce Group, a joint venture between Porsche and CUSTOMCELLS, has successfully established a mass production process for electrode coating in collaboration with Dürr AG. Over the past twelve months, they have developed this process, leveraging Dürr's technology and proximity. The new high-tech coating facility for high-performance battery cells has been commissioned in Bietigheim-Bissingen.
Innovative Coating Process
The Cellforce Group will utilize a special process from Dürr that allows simultaneous coating of both sides of the electrode. This method accelerates the coating process and enhances precision and quality compared to conventional methods, where anode and cathode materials are applied sequentially on both sides of a thin metal foil.
On-Site Collaboration
To establish this process, the Cellforce Group has been working on-site at Dürr in Bietigheim-Bissingen for several months, implementing production on a factory line. This close collaboration has enabled rapid adjustments and development, significantly speeding up the coating process and fostering shared knowledge.
Future Production Site
The technology for double-sided electrode coating was developed by Dürr’s US subsidiary Megtec. The Cellforce Group is currently constructing a state-of-the-art development and production site for battery cells in the Reutlingen-Kirchentellinsfurt industrial park. Once completed, the production processes established at Dürr will be transferred to this new site. Dürr is also providing equipment for exhaust air purification and solvent recovery to ensure sustainable operation of the coating line.
