- Construction starts on a new site in Mahden for battery cell production.
- Pilot production is set to begin in 2024.
- The project receives €60 million in funding from Germany and Baden-Württemberg.
- The site will produce high-performance lithium-ion pouch cells for automotive applications.
Construction Begins
Cellforce Group GmbH has commenced construction on its new headquarters in Mahden, Germany, after receiving initial building permits. The site will feature state-of-the-art facilities for the development and production of battery cells.
Project Timeline
Preparatory earthworks and shoring are already underway. The company aims to move into the new site by the end of 2023, with pilot production scheduled to start in 2024.
Facility Details
The site will include administrative buildings, research facilities for cell chemistry, and a pilot production facility for small-scale battery cell production. A powerhouse will also be built to manage the site's energy needs efficiently and sustainably.
Investment and Capacity
The joint venture between Porsche AG and Customcells Holding GmbH acquired the 28,151 square meter site last year. The initial production capacity is set at 100 MWh per year, enough to produce high-performance battery cells for around 1,000 vehicles. The project is funded with approximately €60 million from the Federal Republic of Germany and the state of Baden-Württemberg.
