Búzios field posts new monthly and daily gas export records
- July average natural gas export reached 10.8 million m³/d, first month above 10 million m³/d.
- Daily export record of 14.1 million m³ was set on 6 August, surpassing July's 13.9 million m³/d.
- CO₂-removal membrane replacements on platforms P-74 to P-77 (started 2025) raised capacity from about 1.5 to 3 million m³/d per platform.
- Systems for P-78 and P-79 are due by 2027; Búzios 12 is scheduled to start in 2032 with an estimated 5.5 million m³/d capacity.
Record performance
For the first time, the field averaged 10.8 million m³/d of natural gas export in July, surpassing the previous monthly record of 9.1 million m³/d set in March 2026. A new daily export peak of 14.1 million m³ was reached on 6 August, exceeding July's 13.9 million m³/d. For comparison, the field averaged 4.7 million m³/d in July 2024.
Capacity gains from optimisation
Growth is being driven by optimisation of existing units rather than new production systems. A modernisation programme begun in 2025 replaced CO₂ removal membranes on platforms P-74, P-75, P-76 and P-77, increasing export capacity from roughly 1.5 to 3 million m³/d per platform, with potential for further gains after complementary process adjustments. The FPSO Almirante Barroso also contributes to the improved results. The entry into operation of Route 3 and other projects have sustained continuous growth in exports.
Planned expansion
Expansion of export capacity will continue: systems for platforms P-78 and P-79 are scheduled to enter service by 2027. At the end of the field's development, 12 platforms are planned, eight of which will have gas export capacity, including Búzios 12, which is scheduled to start in 2032 with an estimated 5.5 million m³/d capacity. The results underline the field's growing role in national natural gas supply.
