- Starting January 1, 2023, the agreement supplies 300 GWh/year of renewable biomethane.
- The biomethane is produced from over 95% agricultural residues and organic waste.
- The supply will reduce the carbon footprint of Rilsan® polyamide 11 and Pebax® Rnew® elastomers.
- Arkema is exploring further collaboration to improve biomethane production.
Agreement Details
Starting January 1, 2023, Arkema has entered into a long-term agreement with ENGIE for the supply of 300 GWh/year of renewable biomethane in France. This deal is one of the largest private biomethane agreements in Europe.
Environmental Impact
The biomethane supplied under this agreement will significantly reduce the carbon footprint of Arkema's bio-based high-performance materials, specifically Rilsan® polyamide 11 and Pebax® Rnew® elastomers. Biomethane, a renewable alternative to natural gas, is produced through the fermentation of organic matter.
Sustainable Feedstock
In France, more than 95% of the feedstock for biomethane comes from the fermentation of agricultural residues and organic waste, ensuring no competition with food production and maintaining environmental respect.
Future Collaboration
Arkema is also exploring opportunities to collaborate with ENGIE and other industry participants to support the continuous improvement of renewable biomethane production in France.
