Location and Facility

The bioeconomy startup traceless has announced the location for its first large-scale production plant at Großmoorbogen in Hamburg-Harburg. The facility will occupy an existing building previously owned by the Wedemann bakery, covering an area of around 4,000 square meters.

Production and Timeline

Production at the new plant is set to begin in 2025, with an annual output of several thousand tons of traceless granulate. The material, a natural plastic substitute made from plant-based agricultural waste, is bio-based, home-compostable, and certified plastic-free.

Investment and Funding

The project has secured €36.6 million in financing, including €5,128,401 from the Environmental Innovation Program of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV). Various investors and a local banking consortium are also involved in the funding.

Job Creation and Regional Impact

Traceless plans to expand its production team to around 90 people, creating approximately 40 new jobs. By establishing the plant in the south of Hamburg, the company aims to foster innovation and advance the bioeconomy in Germany.

Material and Environmental Benefits

The traceless material is designed to replace plastic in products that are difficult to recycle or often end up in the environment. The resource-saving production process reduces CO2 emissions by 91% compared to traditional plastic production and disposal. The granulate can be processed into various forms, including cast parts, flexible films, and coatings.
