The ceremony featured speeches from Avantium CEO Tom van Aken, Minister of Climate and Green Growth Sophie Hermans, and John Bell from the European Commission.

Plant Capabilities

The plant is the world's first commercial facility to produce furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA), a key component for creating 100% plant-based and circular plastic polyethylene furanoate (PEF). The facility is set to produce 5 kilotons of FDCA annually, marking a significant step in the transition from fossil-based to biobased feedstock.

Tour and Discussions

During the event, Queen Máxima toured the facility and engaged in discussions with Avantium stakeholders about the market potential for Releaf, the brand name for their PEF product. The discussions also covered topics such as circularity and the shift from fossil resources to renewable materials. Guests were later given the opportunity to explore the plant and visit an exhibition on Releaf's feedstock and applications at the historic Heveskes church.

Future Engagement

Avantium plans to host a Retail Investor Day on 23 October 2024, inviting retail shareholders to tour the FDCA Flagship Plant and participate in various activities. Registration for this event is already closed, indicating strong interest and engagement from the investment community.
