Avantium

About Avantium

Avantium N.V. is a Netherlands-based renewable chemicals company that develops and commercializes technologies to produce plant-based plastics and key chemical building blocks. Headquartered in Amsterdam, the company focuses on converting renewable feedstocks into sustainable materials for packaging, textiles, and other applications.

Avantium’s core platform, known as YXY Technology, produces furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) from plant-derived sugars. FDCA enables polyethylene furanoate (PEF), a 100% plant-based and recyclable polyester with strong barrier and mechanical properties, suitable for bottles, films, and fibers. In addition to FDCA/PEF, Avantium has developed complementary technology platforms aimed at producing bio-based monoethylene glycol (MEG) from sugars and at converting non-food biomass into valuable sugars and lignin.

The company works with brand owners, resin producers, and packaging converters to scale its technologies through partnerships, supply agreements, and licensing. Avantium is listed on Euronext Amsterdam and Euronext Brussels.
