Investment and Team Effort
Cepsa’s Gibraltar San Roque refinery has initiated operations at its new Sorbex-2 metaxylene plant following an investment of approximately €70 million. The project was completed on schedule thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Construction, Engineering, and Operations departments.
Production Capacity
The Sorbex-2 unit has a production capacity of 150 tons per day of high-quality metaxylene, a key raw material for polymers and plastics. This new unit will operate alongside the existing Sorbex-1 unit, which has been in production since 2008 and produces 210 tons per day.
Supply Chain Integration
To support the new production unit, part of the required xylene will be sourced from Cepsa’s La Rábida Refinery in Huelva. This necessitated the installation of a new section to condition the xylene for the process.
