Project Overview
Lotte Chemical UK Ltd., a subsidiary of KP Chemical Corporation of Korea, has commissioned Uhde Inventa-Fischer to build a new plant for high-quality PET production. The plant will have a production capacity of 200,000 tonnes per year and will be located at Lotte’s production facility at the Wilton International site near Middlesbrough, North-East England.
Scope of Work
Uhde Inventa-Fischer’s responsibilities include basic and detailed engineering, supply of all plant components, and supervision of construction and commissioning activities. Additionally, they will train the operating personnel. ThyssenKrupp Uhde and Uhde India will provide civil and steel structure engineering under the contract.
Technology
The plant will utilize Uhde Inventa-Fischer's patented Melt-To-Resin (MTR®) technology, which is based on two-reactor high-viscosity technology. This process uses ESPREE® and DISCAGE® reactors to ensure consistent high melt viscosity. The MTR® technology is a cost-efficient alternative to traditional two-stage PET production plants, offering lower investment and operating costs for similar-sized installations.
Product Quality
Resin produced using MTR® technology is proven to be of excellent quality and is already established in the European market, particularly for water and carbonated soft drink (CSD) bottles. Lotte Chemical UK Ltd. will supply pure terephthalic acid (PTA) to the new plant directly via pipeline from its existing production site.
