Project Approval and Funding
Lotte Chemical UK Ltd (LCUK) has received board approval to expand Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) production at its Wilton, UK site. The UK Government's Department for Business Innovation & Skills (BIS) confirmed that LCUK secured Regional Growth Fund support, with a conditional offer of funding. Additionally, KP Chemical of South Korea, LCUK's parent company, granted its support in early summer.
New PET Plant Details
LCUK will construct a 200 ktpa PET plant at the Wilton site, adjacent to its existing 150 ktpa PET plant (M5). The new plant is scheduled to be operational by Q3/4 2013. This expansion will enhance the capacity of the co-located T8 PTA plant and enable LCUK to diversify its PET product range, including resins with post-consumer recycled PET.
Local Support
Ian Swales, MP for Redcar and Cleveland, expressed his support for the new plant, highlighting the government's commitment to boosting the manufacturing industry and attracting inward investment to Teesside. The Regional Growth Fund's significant capital investment in the project exemplifies this commitment.
