New TPU Production Complex

BASF Polyurethanes GmbH in Lemförde is constructing a new production complex for thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), marking the largest single investment at the site to date. The complex will include five buildings covering over 4,500 square meters and reaching up to 20 meters in height. It will feature a production hall with state-of-the-art technology, storage areas, tanks, and an office block. The total investment will be in the tens of millions of euros, and about 20 new jobs will be created. Completion and start of production are planned for the end of 2014.

Strategic Importance

This investment is part of BASF's global growth strategy and aims to strengthen its market leadership in specialty plastics. The new complex will serve as a visible sign of the company's long-term expansion strategy and commitment to the Lemförde site. The project is expected to provide a positive signal for the region, customers, and employees.

Ongoing Expansion Projects

The new TPU complex follows other expansion projects at the BASF site, including the development of additional land and the construction of a pilot plant building for novel rigid foam polyurethane applications. The research building extension will continue until at least late autumn. Earlier in the year, the site was enlarged from 11 to approximately 25 hectares by moving the perimeter fence.
