Capacity Expansion
Solvay will increase its production capacity for perfluoropolyethers (PFPE), marketed as FOMBLIN-Y® and GALDEN®, at its Spinetta Marengo, Italy facility. The expansion, requiring an investment of about EUR 15 million, is expected to be completed by the end of 2012. This move aims to meet the growing demand for these high value-added specialty polymers.
FOMBLIN-Y® Applications
The FOMBLIN-Y® product family is primarily used for industrial lubrication in high-temperature bearings and chains, as well as in vacuum pumps within the semiconductor industry. Additionally, it finds applications in the automotive sector, including bearings, valves, actuators, plastic gears and components, and electrical contacts.
GALDEN® Applications
GALDEN® serves as a heat transfer fluid in semiconductor processing equipment and as a testing fluid for finished electronic components. It is also crucial for lead-free soldering of electronic boards, providing uniform heating at extreme temperatures without damaging the plastic substrate. Furthermore, GALDEN® is becoming essential for thermal management in the production of photovoltaic cells, thanks to its low vapor pressures, which result in minimal environmental emissions and reduced operating costs for customers.
