Linde establishes a new hydrogen liquefier in Leuna

At a glance

Linde is expanding its gas production complex in Leuna by adding a hydrogen liquefier, which is set to begin operations in 2021. This expansion will double the production capacities for liquid hydrogen and is a response to the growing demand for hydrogen in Europe. The new plant will offer higher standards for delivery readiness, production capacity, and product purity, and is seen as a valuable investment for the future, considering the increasing use of hydrogen as a fuel for road and rail transport.

Linde is expanding the Group's largest complex for gas production in Leuna, with an additional hydrogen liquefier. The plant is scheduled to go into operation in 2021 and will double existing production capacities for liquid hydrogen (LH2).

Linde is reacting to the growing demand for hydrogen throughout Europe with the construction of the new plant: "With the new hydrogen liquefier, we will be offering our customers even higher standards for delivery readiness, production capacity and product purity," explains Jens Waldeck, Head of Region Central Europe at Linde. "In view of the increasing use of hydrogen as a fuel for road and rail transport, the hydrogen liquefier is also a valuable investment in the future."
