thyssenkrupp Uhde to License Urea Granulation Units for Dangote Fertiliser in Nigeria

Key highlights
  • Four urea granulation units will each produce 4,235 metric tons per day.
  • The new units will increase Dangote Fertiliser's capacity to over eight million tons annually.
  • The units will be located in Lekki, Nigeria, next to existing complexes.
  • The technology includes low-emission scrubbing systems and Ammonia Convert Technology.

Project Overview

thyssenkrupp Uhde Fertilizer Technology has signed contracts with Dangote Fertiliser Limited to provide UFT® Fluid Bed Granulation Technology for four new urea granulation trains in Nigeria. Each unit will have a production capacity of 4,235 metric tons per day, significantly increasing Dangote's total annual urea production capacity to over eight million tons.

Location and Technology

The new granulation units will be situated in Lekki, Nigeria, adjacent to two existing fertilizer complexes that have been operational since 2021. These new plants will incorporate UFT®'s energy-efficient scrubbing systems to meet stringent emission limits, including dust and ammonia scrubbing stages.

Environmental and Commercial Benefits

The integration of Ammonia Convert Technology (ACT) will eliminate undesired side-streams from the ammonia scrubbing stage by incorporating ammonium sulphate into the urea granules. This technology offers both commercial and logistical advantages for Dangote Fertiliser Limited.
