thyssenkrupp Uhde to deliver FEED study for CF Industries' Courtright urea liquor upgrade

Key highlights
  • An affiliate of CF Industries awarded thyssenkrupp Uhde a FEED study for a proposed urea liquor upgrade at Courtright, Ontario.
  • If approved by a positive Final Investment Decision, the project could add more than 400,000 short tons per year of diesel exhaust fluid capacity.
  • The upgrade targets greater utilization of existing CO2 resources and productive use of CO2 streams currently underutilized for DEF production.
  • CF Industries operates one of North America’s largest ammonia networks and is investing to strengthen its production platform and meet rising demand.

FEED study award

thyssenkrupp Uhde has been awarded a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) study by an affiliate of CF Industries for a proposed urea liquor upgrade at CF Industries’ Courtright facility in Ontario, Canada. CF Industries recently highlighted the project as part of its strategic growth initiatives.

Capacity and purpose

Subject to a positive Final Investment Decision, the project could add more than 400,000 short tons per year of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) capacity. The upgrade is intended to enable greater utilization of existing CO₂ resources and to convert CO₂ streams that are currently underutilized into DEF production.

Strategic rationale

CF Industries, which operates one of North America’s largest ammonia production networks, continues to invest in projects that strengthen its production platform and meet growing customer demand. thyssenkrupp Uhde says the award underscores customer trust in its fertilizer and process technology expertise and reinforces its role in applying process integration technologies to enhance existing industrial assets.
