Project Completion
Nouryon has finalized a €20 million project at its Sundsvall, Sweden facility, significantly increasing the production capacity for Expancel expandable microspheres. These microspheres are utilized to enhance the properties of various products, including shoe soles, food packaging, and wind turbines.
Growing Demand
According to Sylvia Winkel Pettersson, Director of Expancel at Nouryon, the demand for Expancel is rapidly growing as new applications are developed to meet customer needs. Examples of these applications include underbody coatings, weather strips, and repair putty for the automotive market, as well as sealants, floorings, and elastomeric cool roof coatings for the construction market.
Product Benefits
Expancel microspheres serve as a lightweight filler and blowing agent, making end products lighter, creating attractive textures, and providing protection against damage and environmental elements. Additionally, they help reduce costs by requiring less raw material.
Future Plans
Nouryon, a leading producer of expandable microspheres, has also announced plans to invest in a new world-scale Expancel plant in the US, pending final board approval. This expansion aims to meet the growing demand and strengthen the company's leadership position in the market.
