Expansion of EVM Production
LANXESS is set to expand its annual production capacity for ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVM) at its Dormagen site. The expansion will increase capacity by 30%, reaching 15,000 metric tons. The new capacities are expected to be available from the second half of 2012.
Investment Details
The company is investing EUR 10 million in this expansion. This move is in response to the growing demand in the wire and cable industry, which uses EVM for manufacturing flame-retardant, halogen-free sheathing.
Market Potential in China
LANXESS sees significant growth potential for its EVM products in China. The material's resistance to heat, oil, and UV makes it suitable for meeting the stringent performance and compliance requirements of the Chinese cable industry. Additionally, its excellent flame-resistant properties allow for the production of flame-retardant and non-corrosive (FRNC) wire and cable.
Business Unit and Segment
The Technical Rubber Products business unit, which oversees the EVM line, is part of LANXESS' Performance Polymers segment. This segment recorded sales of EUR 2,388 million in fiscal 2009.
