Project Overview

BASF has initiated the construction of a new fermentation plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany, dedicated to producing biological and biotechnology-based crop protection products. The facility is scheduled to become operational in the second half of 2025.

Production Capabilities

The plant will manufacture biological fungicides and biological seed treatment products. Additionally, it will produce the main building block of Inscalis®, a novel insecticide derived from a fungal strain. The production process involves using microorganisms to convert renewable raw materials, such as glucose, into the desired products through fermentation.

Employment and Operations

Once operational, the plant will employ 30 people across various roles, including production, logistics, engineering, and maintenance.

Groundbreaking Ceremony

During the inauguration ceremony, a time capsule was buried to commemorate the groundbreaking day. The capsule included a photo of the project team, a daily newspaper, the canteen menu of the day, and a panda bear symbolizing the bond with Chengdu, China, where a significant part of the detailed engineering for the plant was conducted.
