- The plant will require a 485 million euro investment and aims to start in 2026.
- It will have a production capacity of up to 280 MW and include a 450 MWp solar project.
- The project will prevent over 430,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
- The plant will support local decarbonization and economic development.
Project Overview
Enagás Renovable and Naturgy have announced a renewable hydrogen plant in La Robla, Spain, with a production capacity of up to 280 MW. The plant, set to start in 2026, will be located on the site of Naturgy’s former thermal power plant, which is currently being decommissioned. The project will involve an investment of 485 million euros.
Environmental Impact
The new plant will prevent the emission of more than 430,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere annually, contributing significantly to the decarbonization of industrial processes in the area. The project aligns with the European Union's decarbonization targets and Spain’s renewable hydrogen roadmap.
Economic and Social Benefits
The development of the renewable hydrogen plant is expected to boost local and regional economic development. It will create jobs, support sustainable mobility initiatives, and increase local tax revenues. The project aims to minimize the economic and social impact of the transition from traditional industries like mining and coal-fired power plants.
Associated Projects
The hydrogen plant will be complemented by a solar photovoltaic generation project with a total capacity of around 450 MWp, located in neighboring municipalities. This will help achieve economies of scale, reducing the production costs of renewable hydrogen and increasing competitive advantages for local industries.
Key Stakeholders
The project presentation was attended by key figures including the Secretary of State for Energy, Sara Aagesen, and representatives from various governmental and local bodies. The project is a joint venture named Robla Hub, established by Enagás Renovable and Naturgy.
