Petrobras Búzios field reaches 1.1 million bpd

Key highlights
  • Búzios posted a record average daily production of 1,100,000 barrels per day on 23/6, surpassing the 1 million bpd mark hit in October 2025.
  • The field accounts for about one-third of all oil production operated by Petrobras in Brazil (including partners) and nearly half of Petrobras' production on a working-interest basis.
  • Production flows through eight units, including FPSOs Almirante Barroso and Almirante Tamandaré (270,000 bpd capacity); platforms P-78 and P-79 are ramping to 180,000 bpd each.
  • Búzios wells sit more than 2,000 meters below the seabed; the reservoir has high permoporosity and high-API oil, giving very high well productivity.

Record production

The Búzios field in the pre-salt Santos Basin reached an average daily production of 1 million and 100 thousand barrels of oil per day on 23/6, surpassing the 1 million bpd peak recorded in October 2025. As the largest field in Brazil by production and reserves, Búzios supplies about one-third of all oil production operated by Petrobras in Brazil (including partners); on a Petrobras working-interest basis it represents almost half of the company's production.

Operations and expansion

Búzios currently produces through eight units: platforms P-74 to P-79 and the FPSOs Almirante Barroso and Almirante Tamandaré, the latter rated at 270,000 barrels per day. Platforms P-78 and P-79 are undergoing ramp-up to reach maximum capacities of 180,000 bpd each. In total 12 FPSOs are planned for the field, with P-80, P-82 and P-83 under construction and the Búzios 12 unit in bidding.

Reservoir and consortium

The field's most productive wells are located more than 2,000 meters below the seabed; the reservoir's thickness and high permoporosity combined with high-API oil support very high flow rates. Búzios is the second Petrobras field to top 1 million bpd after Tupi. The Búzios consortium comprises Petrobras (operator), Chinese partners CNOOC and CNODC, and PPSA.
