BTG Bioliquids BV and NanosTech Technology & Innovations Ltd. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to deliver a fully integrated solution to produce advanced, drop-in biofuels.

Technology

BTL’s fast pyrolysis converts sustainable biomass into bio-oil while NanosTech’s proprietary Aquaprocessing (AQP) platform upgrades even the most challenging bio-oils into refinery-ready feedstocks to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), renewable diesel and marine fuels. The combined approach removes the need for large external hydrogen supplies or massive refinery-scale infrastructure.

Deployment

The companies are collaborating to determine locations in Canada and Europe for a 500-barrel-per-day modular biorefinery system that can be deployed near feedstock sources to reduce transport emissions, improve economic viability and create new value chains for bio-based producers. They are engaging industrial and government stakeholders and target accelerated deployment by the end of 2025.

Market application and statements

The solution targets second-generation biofuels from non-food biomass such as forestry residues and agricultural waste to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors including aviation, shipping and heavy transport. Company executives highlighted that the collaboration converts complex pyrolysis oils into true drop-in fuels, enabling meaningful CO₂ reductions without hardware changes to conventional engines.
