BTG Bioliquids

About BTG Bioliquids

BTG Bioliquids (BTG-BTL) is a Netherlands-based technology company that develops and commercializes fast pyrolysis processes to convert solid biomass into fast pyrolysis bio‑oil (FPBO). A subsidiary of BTG Biomass Technology Group, the company focuses on turning lignocellulosic residues—such as wood chips and agricultural by‑products—into a liquid biofuel and chemical feedstock.

BTG Bioliquids designs, licenses, and supplies complete fast pyrolysis plants and core equipment, and provides engineering, start‑up, and operational support. The resulting FPBO is used for renewable heat and steam generation, can be upgraded for co‑processing in refineries, and serves as a platform for bio‑based chemicals and materials. The company’s commercial‑scale reference, the Empyro plant in the Netherlands, demonstrates continuous production of FPBO from sustainable residues. BTG Bioliquids works with international engineering partners to deploy its technology globally.

BTG Bioliquids operates at the intersection of renewable fuels and the chemical value chain, enabling substitution of fossil-derived inputs with biomass-derived oil in industrial applications.
