Investment and purpose

OMV Petrom invested approximately EUR 115 million to modernize the electrical infrastructure of the Petrobrazi refinery as part of its broader modernization and transformation programme. The upgrade is intended to support current refinery operations and new capacities under development, including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), renewable diesel (HVO) and green hydrogen projects.

Works delivered

The project included construction of a high-voltage power line directly connected to the Transelectrica substation, a new-generation electrical substation and a power distribution substation to strengthen on-site power delivery.

Technology and on-site generation

The new power infrastructure employs Blue GIS technology, a modern electrical switching system described as having a low environmental impact. The refinery operates its own power generation unit, which currently supplies nearly all of its electricity needs.

Green projects and integration

A 7 MW photovoltaic project is under construction at Petrobrazi. The upgraded electrical infrastructure creates the conditions to integrate major projects already under implementation, notably SAF and HVO production units and green hydrogen production capacities. Petrobrazi continues to play a role in supplying the Romanian market with fuels and other petroleum products.
