Investment in Semiconductor Materials Plant
BASF has commenced construction of an integrated production plant for process chemicals for the semiconductor industry in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The company is investing a double-digit million euro sum in the Electronic Material Center Europe, which is expected to be operational by the end of 2007.
Additional Facilities
In addition to the new plant, BASF is also developing a clean room laboratory and an application center in Ludwigshafen. These additional facilities are scheduled to open in fall 2006, enhancing BASF's capabilities in the semiconductor and flat screen production sectors.
Budget and Expenditure
Overall, BASF has allocated approximately €6 billion for capital expenditure, modernization, and maintenance of its Ludwigshafen plants between 2005 and 2009. Furthermore, the company plans to spend an additional €800 million (about $1.0 billion) annually on research and development during this period.
