- Revolt Ett will process 125,000 tons of batteries annually.
- Operations at the facility will start in 2023.
- The facility aims to supply up to 50% of Northvolt Ett's raw material needs by 2030.
- ABB will deliver switchgears and variable speed drives to the facility.
Partnership Expansion
ABB and Northvolt are expanding their collaboration to include battery recycling. ABB will provide process electrification for Revolt Ett, the world's largest battery recycling facility, located in Skellefteå, Sweden. The order was booked in Q1 2023.
Facility Capabilities
Revolt Ett will process 125,000 tons of end-of-life batteries and production waste annually. It will support Northvolt’s gigafactory, which aims for an annual production capacity of 60 GWh. The facility will start operations in 2023.
Sustainability Goals
Northvolt aims to reduce the carbon footprint of its batteries to 10 kg CO2e per kWh by 2030, compared to the industry reference of 98 kg CO2e per kWh. The facility will be powered by 100% fossil-free energy.
Recycling Impact
Recycling at Revolt Ett will supply up to 50% of Northvolt Ett’s raw material needs for lithium, nickel, cobalt, and manganese by 2030. Northvolt plans to manufacture 150 GWh per annum across its operations in Sweden and Germany by that time.
ABB's Role
ABB will deliver switchgears and variable speed drives to the facility, enhancing energy efficiency and performance. This is ABB’s first order in the battery recycling segment, marking a significant step in their partnership with Northvolt.
