Production Launch in Poland
Solvay has inaugurated its new state-of-the-art plant in Wloclawek, Poland, dedicated to the production of Highly Dispersible Silica (HDS). This facility aims to meet the increasing regional demand for energy-saving tires.
Capacity and Employment
The plant boasts an annual production capacity of 85,000 tons of HDS and is expected to create over 100 jobs in the Pomeranian region. The launch event was attended by various Polish authorities and dignitaries, including the Governor and Marshal of Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province, the Vice President of Wloclawek, the Vice Minister of Environment, and the Belgian Ambassador.
Technological Advancements
The Wloclawek site will produce advanced grades of HDS, which serve as a reinforcing agent in tire rubber, potentially reducing vehicle fuel consumption by up to 7 percent. Solvay’s HDS brands, such as Zeosil® PREMIUM and Efficium®, are designed to enhance tire performance and productivity for both passenger and truck tires.
Global Expansion
With the addition of the Wloclawek plant, Solvay’s Silica division now operates nine sites globally, including locations in Europe, South America, North America, and Asia. Additionally, a new plant in South Korea is under construction and will also produce Efficium®, further increasing Solvay’s annual silica capacity by nearly 50 percent between 2014 and 2016.
