  • Investment is in the three-digit million euro range.
  • Production is scheduled by the end of 2014.
  • The expansion will create about 40 new jobs worldwide.
  • A new polymerization line will be built in Zhenjiang, China.

Expansion Plans

BASF is set to expand its vinylformamide (VFA) manufacturing plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The expansion includes increasing polymerization capacity in Ludwigshafen and establishing a new polymerization line in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province, China. This new facility will process feedstock from Ludwigshafen.

Investment and Job Creation

The total investment for these expansions is in the three-digit million euro range. This initiative is expected to create approximately 40 new jobs worldwide. Production is scheduled to commence by the end of 2014.

Importance of VFA

Vinylformamide is a crucial feedstock for water-soluble, cationic polymers, which are extensively used in the paper industry to enhance production efficiency. The VFA-based polyvinylamine (PVAm) product line helps paper manufacturers produce more environmentally friendly products while significantly reducing costs.

Market Demand

With the increased capacity, BASF aims to better serve paper manufacturers globally. The expansion will help meet the growing demand for polyvinylamine, particularly in Europe, the Americas, and Asia, which is considered the growth engine for paper production and demand.
