Lease Agreement and Construction Timeline
FRX Polymers, Inc. has signed a long-term lease agreement with Bayer Antwerp for 3,000 square meters of land on Bayer’s Antwerp site. The construction of FRX's first commercial plant is set to begin in August 2012, with commissioning expected in the fourth quarter of 2013.
Product Portfolio
FRX manufactures and markets a new, environmentally friendly family of inherently flame retardant plastics. These include polyphosphonate homopolymers, copolymers, and oligomers, which are tough, transparent, and possess high melt flow. The products are used in consumer electronics, building and construction, and transportation markets as polymeric flame retardant additives, flame retardant engineering plastics, and reactive flame retardant additives for thermosetting resins.
Patent Portfolio
FRX has an extensive and growing patent portfolio, with 20 granted patents and 58 patent applications. The company has received several awards, including Frost and Sullivan’s “Innovation of the Year” award for flame retardant materials in 2008 and the first-place award in the Clean Technology Business Forum.
Existing Operations
FRX operates two pilot plants in Chelmsford, MA, and a larger polymer pilot plant in Switzerland. The company is currently producing at capacity and will use part of its Series B investment to finance the new commercial plant.
Strategic Location
The selection of Bayer’s Antwerp site is strategic for FRX, as the site is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and produces two key raw materials important for FRX. Additionally, Antwerp Port is central to European chemical manufacturing, providing access to a highly skilled workforce and world-class logistics.
