OGE Open Grid Europe GmbH

About OGE

OGE Open Grid Europe GmbH (OGE) is a German gas transmission system operator headquartered in Essen. It plans, operates, and maintains one of the country’s largest high‑pressure natural gas pipeline networks, offering regulated third‑party access for shippers and linking major industrial regions with domestic and cross‑border supply sources, storage sites, and import interfaces.

Serving the chemical and process industries, OGE connects production sites and clusters—particularly in North Rhine‑Westphalia and other industrial corridors—supporting security of supply and system balancing. In line with Germany’s energy transition, OGE is working to adapt its infrastructure for low‑carbon molecules, including participation in initiatives to develop a national hydrogen backbone and to enable CO₂ transport from industrial emitters to storage and utilization hubs. Its activities span network planning and operations, capacity management, metering, and compliance with German and EU regulation.
