Bio-based paper food-packaging with strong grease barrier at low coat weights. Recyclable and home-compostable. Runs on existing packaging lines; suited to bakery/fast-food

PHA dispersion technology advances for compostable, recyclable packaging, achieving pilot-scale success and compatibility with standard paper-drying, enhancing film formation and durability.

In partnership with Looop, pilot will convert dairy by‑products (third validated sidestream after sewage sludge and paper process water) into PHA biomass and polymers, aiming for Q1 2026.

PRECEDING project, funded by RVO's TSE program, will deliver conceptual design and business case to commercialize PHA from organic side streams as a natural alternative to fossil plastics.

Raised funds will scale up biopolymer production, leveraging wastewater technology. New facility in Emmen to produce biodegradable PHA, with significant market growth expected by 2028.

A PHA demo plant will be operational in 2023, with a commercial plant by 2026, creating 40 jobs. The project supports Emmen's green chemistry focus and involves a €58 million investment.
