Production milestone
Happy Cups, together with H&P Moulding and Paques Biomaterials, has produced the first Happy Cup using locally produced Caleyda®, a PHA material. The cup was injection‑moulded by H&P Moulding as a demonstration of commercial processing.
Material purpose and positioning
Caleyda® was developed to replace fossil‑based plastics with a high‑performance, biodegradable material produced from local organic residual resources. Happy Cups has pursued PHA for years as an alternative to conventional plastics; the company emphasises that using PHA makes sense if it is available and performs well in processing.
Validation and regulatory next steps
Paques Biomaterials states the successful processing shows Caleyda® meets the technical specifications required for reliable processing and is ready for commercial application. The company is preparing preliminary work toward food‑contact approval and aims to initiate approval procedures as soon as possible.
PHA Centre of Expertise collaboration
The result emerged from the PHA Centre of Expertise, where the full PHA value chain meets on the first Thursday of every month to exchange knowledge and advance concepts into products. Meetings cited include Greenwise Campus (September 2025), Paques Biomaterials (April 2026) and Happy Cups (August 2026), and several new product developments using locally produced PHA are already underway.
