Perth-based company Peak Resources has chosen the Wilton International Site in the UK as the preferred location for its £70m rare earth refinery. The refinery will process minerals for use in mobile phones, wind turbines and the automotive sector. If approved, production is expected to begin in 2019. Peak Resources cited access to global shipping, cheap and reliable bulk reagent supplies, a skilled labour force, and readily available power and water as reasons for choosing Wilton. The company will focus on mining and processing neodymium and praseodymium, which are used in the permanent magnet market.
