Project Announcement
Total Corbion PLA, a joint venture between Total and Corbion, plans to build its second PLA plant in Grandpuits, France. The plant will have a capacity of 100,000 tons per annum and is expected to be operational in 2024.
Investment and Support
The total investment for this project is approximately 200 million Euro. Both shareholders, Corbion and Total, fully support the ambitious growth plans of the joint venture.
Strategic Alignment
The new plant aligns with Total’s strategy to innovate and grow in circular economy solutions. It will be located on Total’s new “Zero petrol platform” in Grandpuits, reinforcing the partnership with Corbion.
Material and Applications
Luminy® PLA resins, produced at the new plant, are biobased and made from annually renewable resources. They offer a reduced carbon footprint compared to traditional plastics and can be mechanically or chemically recycled. PLA’s biodegradable and compostable properties make it suitable for various markets, including fresh fruit packaging, food service ware, durable consumer goods, toys, and 3D printing.
