Rompetrol Quality Control upgrades Petromidia and Vega refinery laboratories

Key highlights
  • About 40 analytical instruments were acquired for the Petromidia Năvodari and Vega Ploieşti refineries and Romania's petrochemicals laboratory.
  • New high-performance chromatographs and dedicated systems for sulfur, nitrogen, chlorine, metals, particle counts and physical properties enable analyses at very low concentrations for aviation fuels, specialty products and petrochemicals.
  • Modern solutions introduce faster, fully digital data management, workflow optimisation and expanded testing capacity, and RQC operates a mobile laboratory for on-site atmospheric emissions measurement.
  • RQC is the only Romanian provider of the full RENAR‑accredited gasoline and diesel test range, offers jet-fuel testing including SAF blends, is RAR‑certified for biodiesel, and runs the country's sole petrochemical products laboratory for polymer monitoring and food-contact testing.

Upgrade programme

Rompetrol Quality Control has implemented an equipment modernisation programme across the Petromidia Năvodari and Vega Ploieşti refinery laboratories and the Group's petrochemicals laboratory, acquiring approximately 40 pieces of analytical equipment.

Analytical capability

Deliveries include high-performance chromatographs for aviation fuels and specialty products, and systems for identifying sulfur, nitrogen, chlorine and metal compounds, plus instruments for particle determination and physical-property testing. The new instruments enable higher precision, speed and sensitivity, including measurements at very low concentrations.

Data and operational impact

Integration of the instruments supports faster, fully digital data management, workflow optimisation and expanded testing capacity, intended to increase flexibility to meet diverse market requirements and to support commercial partnerships with third parties.

Services and accreditations

RQC operates a mobile laboratory for on-site atmospheric emissions measurements and an environmental laboratory for water, air and soil testing compliant with national and European monitoring requirements. The company provides the full RENAR‑accredited range of gasoline and diesel tests, offers jet‑fuel testing including SAF blends, and holds RAR certification for biodiesel testing.

Petrochemical and refinery testing scope

The petrochemical products laboratory performs continuous polymer monitoring under international standards for plastics intended for food contact. The Vega Ploieşti laboratory supplies full testing for n‑hexane (polymerization‑grade and food‑grade solvents) and the complete test set for road bitumen products.

Background and recognition

Established in 2004 from the refineries' outsourced laboratories, RQC expanded nationwide and has participated in national fuel quality monitoring programmes, with recognitions for its work on automotive fuel quality and determination of sulfur in marine fuels.
