- Vega Ploieşti began producing normal hexane with minimum 60% purity after optimising the N‑Hexane unit.
- Production capacity for 60%‑purity hexane is about 150 t/day.
- Vega produced ~93,000 t of hexane last year and plans a similar output (~90,000 t) for 2026.
- Normal hexane is used mainly for edible‑oil extraction and as a solvent in adhesives, rubber, paints and degreasing; Vega supplies domestic demand (~4,000 t) and exports to EU (Germany, France, Poland, Italy, Belgium, Czech Rep.) and Asian markets (India, Pakistan, Uzbekistan).
Production upgrade
Vega Ploieşti (Rompetrol Rafinare) started producing normal hexane with a minimum 60% purity after optimising the N‑Hexane unit and completing additional quality tests and monitoring to meet the new specifications.
Specifications and benefits
The 60%‑purity grade improves on the former 50% product, has a lower boiling point (~69°C) and a higher extraction rate, making it suitable for edible‑oil extraction and industrial uses such as adhesives, rubber, paints and degreasing; it supports higher yields and shorter extraction times, aiding process cost optimisation.
Capacity and volumes
Production capacity for the 60% grade is about 150 tonnes/day; the refinery produced around 93,000 tonnes of hexane last year and plans a similar output (~90,000 tonnes) for 2026; national consumption is about 4,000 tonnes and is covered domestically.
Markets and supply chain
Most product is exported to European markets (notably Germany, France, Poland, Italy, Belgium, Czech Republic) and to Asian buyers (India, Pakistan, Uzbekistan); refinery performance is supported by Petromidia supplying raw materials (light gasoline, chemical raffinates, fuel oil) to secure supply and enable competitive industrial solutions.
