Petrobras sells first soybean-oil SAF with CORSIA Low ILUC Risk certification
- Commercialized volume: 3.8 thousand m³ of SAF produced by co-processing at the Duque de Caxias Refinery (Reduc).
- Renewable content of the batch was 1%, aligned with initial obligations of the Future Fuel Law for domestic aviation emission reductions.
- Feedstock supplied by Bunge: soybean oil certified under CORSIA Low ILUC Risk, the first soybean SAF with this international certification.
- The batch was commercialized with Vibra, expanding supply of renewable-content aviation fuels; Petrobras highlighted co-processing as the production route.
Production and sale
Petrobras concluded the production and commercialization last week of the first batch of SAF produced from soybean oil with CORSIA certification of low ILUC risk. The commercialized volume of 3.8 thousand m³ was obtained by co-processing at the Duque de Caxias Refinery (Reduc) with 1% renewable content in the composition.
Feedstock and certification
To produce the batch Petrobras acquired from Bunge soybean oil certified under CORSIA Low ILUC Risk, ensuring the raw material does not come from deforestation nor indirectly encourage it. This is the first soybean SAF in the world with associated international CORSIA certification of low ILUC risk.
Market and partners
The batch was commercialized with Vibra, expanding the supply of fuels with renewable content to the aviation market. Co-processing at Reduc integrates renewable raw materials into existing refining infrastructure, giving Petrobras flexibility in SAF production.
Strategic intent
Petrobras said the move aligns with the Future Fuel Law's initial obligations for domestic aviation emission reductions and supports its commitment to a just energy transition and to encouraging suppliers' production chains to adopt verifiable sustainable practices. “The commercialization of the first SAF in the world with soybean certified with low ILUC risk demonstrates Petrobras' commitment to sustainability, the energy transition and the development of products aligned with market and societal demands,” stated Angélica Laureano, Director of Logistics, Commercialization and Markets at Petrobras.
