Joint Venture Formation

OMV and Masdar have signed a binding agreement to form a joint venture for the development and operation of a 140 MW green hydrogen electrolyzer plant in Bruck an der Leitha, Austria. OMV will hold a majority stake, while Masdar will own 49% of the venture.

Project Details

The plant is set to become one of Europe's largest green hydrogen production facilities, marking a significant step in OMV's efforts to decarbonize its Schwechat refinery. Construction began in September 2025, with operations expected to start in 2027.

Strategic Collaboration

The partnership combines OMV's strategic leadership in fuels and chemicals with Masdar's expertise in clean energy projects. The collaboration sets the stage for future exploration of green hydrogen, synthetic sustainable aviation fuels, and synthetic chemicals in both the UAE and Central and Northern Europe.

Regulatory and Approval Process

The joint venture is anticipated to close in early 2026, subject to final documentation, shareholder approvals, and regulatory clearances. The agreement was signed at ADIPEC, witnessed by key figures from both companies and government officials from the UAE and Austria.
