Project and partners
Union Chlorine L.L.C, a joint venture including Oman Chlorine SAOG and Horizon Energy L.L.C plus two other investors, has awarded an EPC contract to FATA EPC (a division of FATA SpA) for a greenfield chlor‑alkali plant to be built at ICAD‑3, ZonesCorpin, Abu Dhabi. The signing ceremony took place on November 12, 2013.
Scope and capacity
FATA EPC will deliver a full EPC scope including engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and start‑up. The plant has an installed capacity of 70 metric tonnes per day (MT/day) of caustic soda at 100% and will produce hydrochloric acid and sodium hypochlorite in Phase‑I, with further downstream products planned for Phase‑II aimed at the oil & gas sector.
Technology and compliance
The facility will feature bipolar membrane electrolysers and is being designed according to Best Available Techniques (BAT) to control air emissions and waste processing, ensuring compliance with stringent local environmental regulations.
Market and schedule
The project is intended to supply high‑quality products to the UAE oil & gas market and other downstream industries, generate direct and supporting jobs, and follows a fast‑track timetable with commissioning targeted for August 2015 and commercial production for October 2015.
