Handover and commissioning

thyssenkrupp nucera has handed over a new chlor-alkali electrolysis plant to Chlorum Solutions at the Palmeira site. Commissioning was completed through close collaboration between thyssenkrupp nucera’s global project teams and Chlorum Solutions’ local organisation, with the skid-mounted concept and experienced teams ensuring operational readiness aligned with expectations.

Technology and design

The delivered system uses thyssenkrupp nucera’s BM2.7 zero-gap membrane electrolysis technology, noted for increased usable membrane area, full zero-gap design and low energy consumption. The plant is skid-mounted and built from standardized, pre-assembled modules installed on steel skids sized for container-standard transport, enabling faster, simpler assembly and lower construction costs.

Capacity and sustainability

The Palmeira facility provides a production capacity of more than 15,000 tons of chlorine per year. It was designed to meet stringent environmental and energy-efficiency requirements and is powered entirely by electricity from renewable energy sources.

Regional rollout

This is the second Chlorum Solutions chlor-alkali plant commissioned by thyssenkrupp nucera in 2026; an earlier skid-mounted BM2.7 unit in Minas Gerais was completed in February. Both projects were engineered and executed in parallel as part of Chlorum Solutions’ strategy to expand regional chlorine supply for products such as soda, hydrochloric acid and hypochlorite.
