Project Overview
OMV Petrom has delivered the first electrolyser module for its 20 MW green hydrogen project at the Petrobrazi refinery. This marks a significant step in producing sustainable fuels like SAF and HVO.
Investment and Funding
The project benefits from approximately EUR 21 million in non-reimbursable funds through PNRR. The SAF/HVO program involves a total investment of EUR 750 million, with EUR 560 million allocated for the SAF/HVO unit and EUR 190 million for green hydrogen facilities.
Production Capacity
The 20 MW green hydrogen plant will produce around 3,000 tons of green hydrogen annually. The SAF/HVO unit will have an annual capacity of 250,000 tons, with production expected to start in 2028.
Partnerships and Construction
Equipment for the project is supplied by Neuman & Esser from Germany. Kraftanlagen Romania, in collaboration with local suppliers, is responsible for site construction, unloading, and integration of the modules at the Petrobrazi refinery.
Environmental Impact
The hydrogen produced will be green, obtained through electrolysis of water using renewable energy. This process supports the production of biofuels, reducing CO₂ emissions by at least 65% over the entire economic cycle.
