INERATEC ERA ONE secures ISCC EU certification for PtL e‑fuels
- ERA ONE received ISCC EU certification under RED III, becoming the first Power-to-Liquid plant whose synthetic fuels are fully recognized as RFNBO.
- The Frankfurt‑Höchst facility produces up to 2,500 tons of e‑fuels per year and was inaugurated in 2025 as a fuel producer.
- ISCC EU certification confirms the fuels derive entirely from renewable non‑biological sources and achieve at least 70% lifecycle GHG reduction versus fossil fuels, with an audited chain of custody.
- INERATEC plans to install and ISCC EU certify on-site upgrading units in early 2027 to raise the share of finished, market-ready fuels produced at ERA ONE.
Certification milestone
INERATEC’s ERA ONE has received ISCC EU certification under the Renewable Energy Directive (EU) 2018/2001 (RED III), making it the first Power-to-Liquid plant whose synthetic fuels are fully recognised as RFNBO. With certification, fuels from ERA ONE can be counted towards RFNBO sub-targets in transport, aviation and industry.
Production and emissions
ERA ONE, located at Industriepark Frankfurt‑Höchst, produces up to 2,500 tons of e‑fuels per year and was inaugurated in 2025 as INERATEC’s transition from plant manufacturer to fuel producer. ISCC EU audit confirms the fuels derive entirely from renewable, non‑biological sources and achieve at least a 70% greenhouse‑gas reduction across their lifecycle compared with fossil fuels.
Market relevance and demos
Certification arrives as binding RFNBO sub-targets under RED III begin to phase in, ensuring ERA ONE output can be counted from the moment obligations apply and reducing regulatory risk for off‑takers. Practical readiness was demonstrated in June 2026 when fuel from ERA ONE was used on a passenger flight from Amsterdam to Hamburg via existing infrastructure.
Extending the certified value chain
INERATEC plans to install and ISCC EU certify its own upgrading units at ERA ONE in early 2027. Those units will extend the certified value chain and increase the share of finished, market‑ready fuels produced on site, supporting further market ramp‑up of synthetic fuels in Europe.
