The collaboration aims to produce up to 500,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel annually in East Germany, reducing CO2 emissions and supporting net-zero goals by 2050. Airbus may join as an offtaker.

The agreement marks a key milestone for the eFuels plant, aiming to produce sustainable aviation fuels to meet EU mandates and decarbonize the aviation sector by converting CO2 and H2 into eFuel.

The new biomass cogeneration plant will supply 70,000 MWh of steam annually, reducing CO2 emissions by 13,000 tons and producing 90,000 MWh of sustainable electricity by 2025.

The companies will study building a plant in the US or Germany to produce battery-grade electrolyte solvents, using proprietary technologies and aiming to minimize carbon footprint.

The expansion at Brunsbüttel adds 15,000 tons of alumina hydrate capacity annually. New units, including drum and spray dryers, were commissioned, with further expansions planned in the US and Germany.
