Sasol International Chemicals restarts ISOSIV paraffin unit in Italy
- The ISOSIV paraffin unit has returned to beneficial operation after being previously idled.
- The unit produces normal paraffin, the feedstock for DETAL Linear Alkylbenzene (LAB) and Linear Alkyl Sulfonate (LAS).
- Sasol declared force majeure in April on DETAL LAB, LAS and downstream derivatives due to geopolitical tensions affecting its Italy and Germany sites.
- Following the ISOSIV restart, Sasol is lifting the force majeure and says the added capacity improves supply reliability and manufacturing capability for Care Chemicals.
Unit restart and product
The ISOSIV paraffin unit has returned to beneficial operation after being previously idled. The unit produces normal paraffin, which is a critical feedstock for DETAL Linear Alkylbenzene (LAB) and Linear Alkyl Sulfonate (LAS), raw materials used in household cleaning products and laundry detergents.
Force majeure lifted
Sasol had declared force majeure in April on DETAL LAB, LAS and downstream derivatives because of geopolitical tensions that affected its Italy and Germany sites. With improved supply reliability following the ISOSIV restart, the company is lifting the force majeure on those products.
Operational impact
The additional normal paraffin capacity strengthens the company’s integrated value chain and increases manufacturing capabilities for Care Chemicals applications, improving supply continuity across its asset base.
