Uniper appoints Christian Ohlms Chief Commercial Officer

Appointment

Dr. Christian Ohlms has been appointed Chief Commercial Officer of Uniper, effective October 1; he will be responsible for the Group’s trading and sales in power, natural gas, LNG and renewable and low‑carbon commodities and will lead the strategic realignment of Uniper’s commodity trading. He succeeds Dr. Carsten Poppinga, who has already left the company.

Previous role

Ohlms joins from SEFE Securing Energy for Europe GmbH, where he has served since early 2024 as one of two Managing Directors with joint responsibility for commercial strategy and P&L responsibility for the Infrastructure Division.

Experience and qualifications

He has more than 25 years of experience in the energy and financial sectors with roles at McKinsey & Company (Frankfurt, New York), RWE Supply & Trading, Innogy Grid & Infrastructure and E.ON; his expertise includes financial and physical energy trading, asset‑based optimisation, sales of power and gas and investments in energy‑related assets. Ohlms holds a doctorate in industrial engineering from the Technical University of Darmstadt and is a graduate of the École Supérieure d’Électricité.
