About SSAB

SSAB AB is a Nordic steel company headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. It develops and manufactures advanced high-strength steels, quenched and tempered plate, strip, and tubular products. The group operates through SSAB Special Steels, SSAB Europe, and SSAB Americas, with major production sites in Sweden (Luleå, Borlänge, Oxelösund), Finland (Raahe, Hämeenlinna), and the United States (notably Montpelier, Iowa, and Mobile, Alabama). SSAB expanded its footprint through the 2014 combination with Finland’s Rautaruukki, and serves customers worldwide via a broad distribution and service network.

SSAB’s portfolio includes well-known brands such as Hardox wear plate, Strenx high-strength structural steel, Docol for automotive applications, and GreenCoat color-coated steels for building applications. Its materials are used in sectors including automotive, construction, heavy transport, mining, lifting, and energy. The company is pursuing significant decarbonization, including participation in the HYBRIT initiative with partners to develop hydrogen-based, fossil-free ironmaking, and a transition from blast furnaces toward lower-emission technologies. SSAB Americas primarily uses electric arc furnaces with scrap-based inputs, aiming for comparatively lower CO2 intensity in plate production.
