Nordic Investment Bank

About NIB

Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) is an international financial institution owned by the eight Nordic and Baltic countries: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden. Headquartered in Helsinki, it provides long‑term financing to projects that strengthen competitiveness and deliver measurable environmental benefits across its member countries. NIB funds its lending mainly through bond issuance in international capital markets, including dedicated NIB Environmental Bonds.

For the chemical industry and related value chains, NIB finances industrial investments such as process modernisation, energy efficiency and electrification, emissions and wastewater abatement, circular economy solutions, and the transition to lower‑carbon and bio‑based production. It also supports enabling infrastructure in energy and transport that underpins industrial performance. Lending is guided by a structured impact assessment covering productivity and environmental outcomes, and borrowers include corporates, utilities, municipalities and project companies.
