Uniper appoints Worley as preferred EPC for Connah’s Quay low-carbon power project

Contract award and FEED conclusion

Worley has been selected as the preferred Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) supplier for Uniper’s proposed Connah’s Quay Low Carbon Power (CQLCP) project following a Front End Engineering Design (FEED) competition that started in December 2024. Uniper announced the decision on 23 July.

Permitting and next milestones

Uniper submitted a Development Consent Order (DCO) application in August 2025; a decision is expected in the coming months. If consented and developed, the new station would be built on land adjacent to Uniper’s existing power station and progress toward a final investment decision.

Carbon capture and cluster integration

The proposed station would be fitted with carbon capture technology designed to capture at least 95% of its CO2 emissions and connect into CO2 transport and storage infrastructure within the HyNet industrial cluster, enabling permanent offshore storage in repurposed depleted gas fields.

Capacity and timing

The project targets up to a maximum of 1.38 GW of low‑carbon power developed in two phases; from completion of phase one the scheme could supply the equivalent of around 1.1 million homes a year, with phase one potentially operational from 2030.
