Launch event

The Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons Mohamed ARKAB, accompanied by Nigeria’s Minister of State for the Petroleum Resources (Gas) Ekperikpe EKPO and Niger’s Minister of Petroleum Hamadou TINI, launched the official construction works of the Algerian segment in Aoulef, Wilaya of Adrar. The ceremony took place in the presence of SONATRACH Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Nour Eddine DAOUDI and the Wali of Adrar Fodil DOUIFI.

Route and integration

Within its Algerian segment, the Trans‑Saharan Gas Pipeline will follow the Trans‑Saharan Road corridor from the Algerian‑Nigerien border to the National Gas Dispatching Center (CNDG) in Hassi R’Mel. Its route has been optimised to run alongside main existing infrastructures, particularly road networks and gas pipelines already in operation, leveraging logistical and technical synergies. From Hassi R’Mel the TSGP will connect to the national gas transportation network and to existing export infrastructures in Algeria.

Consortium and purpose

The TSGP is being jointly developed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), the Nigerien Oil Products Company (SONIDEP) and SONATRACH. Its implementation aims to establish a new strategic export corridor for African natural gas to international markets, particularly Europe, linking Nigeria, Niger and Algeria.

Strategic context

The project is included among the flagship initiatives of the New Partnership for the Development of Africa (NEPAD) and is one of three major structuring projects under that program, alongside the Algiers‑Lagos Trans‑Saharan Road and the optic fibre link between Algeria and Nigeria, intended to support regional integration and the valorisation of African energy resources.
