Société Nigérienne de Pétrole SONIDEP SA is a wholly state-owned company headquartered in Niamey, Niger. Founded in 1977 as Société Nigérienne des Produits Pétroliers, it was renamed in 2020 and expanded its mandate to cover the full petroleum value chain. Its core activities include the importation, transportation, storage, refining and marketing of petroleum products across Niger. The company has recently begun upstream operations, launching oil and gas exploration and exploitation in eastern Niger blocks. It participates in regional projects such as the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline consortium with Nigeria’s NNPC and Algeria’s SONATRACH, and has signed cooperation agreements with Algerian firms for seismic acquisition, drilling and petroleum distribution.
